The Sterling Senior Center is located at 130 Broadway in Sterling. Serving the Sterling community since 1983, it is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The center coordinates daily luncheons (view monthly lunch menu), birthday parties, holiday parties and home-delivered meals. An outreach of Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging, it also provides transportation, telephone reassurance, information and referrals for home healthcare, housekeeping and handyman services, and assistance for legal and financial needs. Nutrition and health information are available as well as occasional clinics and flu shots. Contact Doris Behrens, Manager at (402) 866-2050 for information about volunteer opportunities. The Deer Creek Sodbusters is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of America's agricultural heritage. They have sponsored an annual antique tractor and machinery show since 1983 which attracts about 2,000 visitors to the area. They also participate in area town picnics, parades, and county fairs. They are always looking for new members. If you are looking for fun fellowship and an opportunity to contribute to the preservation of our agricultural heritage, you are welcome to join.

The Sterling Women of Today is an organization of area women that sponsor various projects which benefit the community. In 1995 the group raised money for new playground equipment at the Sterling Park.
The Sterling Community Association was formed in 1990 and incorporated in 1992 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Their purpose is to promote the betterment and general welfare of the Village of Sterling and its surrounding rural area. They sponsor community programs for children, youth, adults and senior citizens and provide a meeting place for these groups. The group also promotes community functions and activities and annually assesses the community's progress and needs. The organization undertakes projects brought before the organization and passed by a majority vote of the members present. The association has been a driving force behind many improvements to the Sterling community. One of their biggest accomplishments has been acquiring a vacant downtown building and renovating it into a community center. This facility provides a place for family gatherings, a meeting place for organizations and senior citizen meals, and a senior center. The Sterling Improvement Association was formed in November 1955 by area residents who were concerned about the lack of medical facilities in the area. The organization raised $23,800 by selling 476 shares at $50 per share. In May 1956 this money was used to buy land and later, a medical clinic was built. The clinic is presently occupied by a Dentist, two Family Doctors and a Physicians Assistant.
